Frequently Asked Questions

  • How early can you find out your baby's gender with an ultrasound in Lafayette?

Gender determination is available starting at 14 weeks of pregnancy. The imaging is performed by a registered ultrasound technician with 30+ years of clinical experience, which supports accurate reads earlier in the second trimester when fetal positioning allows a clear view.
  • Can you keep the gender a secret during the ultrasound appointment for a reveal party later?

Yes — at booking or on arrival, you choose whether the gender is sealed in an envelope for a private reveal later or announced to everyone in the room during the scan. The envelope option lets you plan a separate gender reveal event without anyone finding out early.
  • What's included in an ultrasound package at a Lafayette elective imaging studio?

Packages can include heartbeat detection, baby measurements, due date confirmation, printed pictures larger than standard clinical facilities produce, 3D and 4D imaging, gender determination, heartbeat animal keepsakes, and digital delivery options — depending on which package level you select.
  • What's the difference between a 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasound, and which one should you get?

2D produces flat cross-section images used for measurements; 3D renders a still surface image of the baby's face and features; 4D adds real-time movement to the 3D image. Families wanting keepsake-quality views of facial expressions and movement typically choose 3D or 4D options in the second or third trimester.
  • What is a heartbeat animal keepsake and how does it work?

A heartbeat animal is a stuffed animal with a small sound module inside that plays your baby's recorded heartbeat when pressed. The heartbeat is recorded during your ultrasound appointment and embedded into the keepsake — available in select premium packages.
  • Do you need an appointment for a gender reveal ultrasound, or can you walk in?

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are strongly encouraged to avoid long waits. Calling ahead or booking online secures your preferred time slot and lets you confirm your envelope-or-announce preference before you arrive.
  • Why do families in Acadiana travel to Lafayette for elective ultrasound imaging instead of using their OB's office?

Most OB offices across Acadiana provide standard 2D diagnostic imaging only. Elective studios in Lafayette offer 3D and 4D packages, gender reveal services starting at 14 weeks, larger printed pictures, heartbeat keepsakes, and a family-welcoming environment that clinical settings typically don't provide.
  • Can you bring your kids and family to the ultrasound appointment?

Yes — the practice welcomes the whole family, including children. There's a play area on-site for younger kids, and the technician can announce the gender to everyone in the room if that's the experience you're looking for.
  • Is there a gift shop at the Lafayette ultrasound studio, and what does it carry?

An on-site gift shop is located at the same facility where ultrasounds are performed. It stocks baby clothes, pacifiers, diaper bags, and other newborn items — so expecting mothers from Breaux Bridge, Opelousas, Abbeville, and surrounding areas can combine their appointment with baby shopping in one stop.
  • What week range is best for getting a 3D or 4D ultrasound for clear images?

The clearest 3D and 4D images typically come between 26 and 32 weeks, when the baby has developed enough fat under the skin for defined facial features but still has enough amniotic fluid around the face for an unobstructed view. Earlier scans can still capture movement but detail improves later in pregnancy.
  • Who performs the ultrasound imaging at Love at First Sight in Lafayette?

The owner personally conducts all ultrasound imaging, including gender determination scans. She is a registered ultrasound technician with more than 30 years of clinical experience — meaning the person conducting your scan built the practice around that expertise rather than delegating it to rotating staff.
  • How do elective ultrasound packages in Lafayette differ from what your OB provides at prenatal visits?

OB ultrasounds are diagnostic — focused on measurements, anatomy checks, and medical documentation. Elective packages are designed around the experience: larger printed photos, 4D video, gender reveals, heartbeat keepsakes, and extended time to see the baby's face and movements without the clinical time constraints of a medical appointment.
  • How far do you have to be to see a heartbeat?

    As early as 6 weeks.

  • How far for gender reveal?

Preferably 14 weeks. It is possible to do at 13 weeks dependent on different circumstances.

  • What is the difference between 3D and 4D?

Two different ways of imaging the baby. 3D is a still picture. 4D is actually watching baby live. Both with same result - Pictures!

  • How long does an ultrasound take?

That depends on the baby. On occasion, it can be 10 minutes or up to 45 minutes. Usually 3D/4D does take the longest.

  • Do you accept clients without appointments?

  • Will Love at First Sight take my medical insurance?

  • How can I prepare for the best ultrasound experience?

For the best 3D ultrasound, make sure to have a full bladder. For 4D ultrasounds, drink plenty of water the day before; a full bladder isn't necessary.

  • Will this ultrasound take the place of a routine diagnostic ultrasound?

This ultrasound is just for fun! Will not be considered diagnostic.
